On October 23rd our class went on a hike to Beaconsfield Canyon and we saw plants, then came up with these questions and observations.
Observations
A lot of plants our dying because it is almost winter.
I could smell the California Bay Laurel when I was walking.
The toyon has many red berries.
The Black Cottonwood’s leaves are fuzzy.
The Toyon has lots of berries.
I saw the Coastal Redwood and the Black Cottonwood.
The Poison Oak was starting to turn red.
The California Bay Lurel smells very good.
The stinging nettle was taller than me.
There are lots of dangerous plants besides poison oak.
The Pacific Madrone has red, peely bark.
The Blue Elderberry has really blue leaves and the berries were blue.
I saw a lot of poison oak! It was red and green!
The Black Cottonwood is very tall and has some black spots on its bark.
Stinging nettle stings you when you walk pass it.
California bay laurel, dark green leaves, smells minty, rough bark, brown.
The big leaf maple does not smell.
